HATE CRIMES: FOLLOWING THE STORY IN DENVER: DOES HATE CRIME PROSECUTION MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Bruce says: I don't support Hate Crime prosecution of criminals. A crime is a crime, prosecuted under laws...many laws...regardless who commits the crime.
I've been following this story in the Denver Post and on Peter Boyles talk radio show on KHOW 630AM.
Groups of young black men and women targeted white and Hispanic males for beatings and robberies in the LoDo area of Denver. The LoDo community contains many clubs and bars popular with young people in Denver. The Mayor of Denver claims, in comments he made to the Denver media, that he wasn't aware of the attacks which occurred over a span of several months. Like the movie JAWS, it seems the town fathers didn't want to alert the public of this danger for fear of losing revenue in LoDo. It's an interesting read. The Denver Post article provides links to other stories about these incidents.
Peter Boyles show is available for ORF readers on the right hand side of the blog. Click to listen to a live stream or listen to archived shows.
Article on Eric Holder's national HATE CRIME legislation:
From the article:
"At a signing ceremony at the White House attended by Byrd’s and Shepard’s family members, Obama called the bill another step in the continuing struggle to protect human rights. “We must stand against crimes that are meant not only to break bones, but to break spirits — not only to inflict harm, but to instill fear.”
ORF asks: Under this law, would Christmas someday be considered a hate crime because someone alleges the symbols and tradition of Christmas breaks spirits, inflicts harm and instills fear?
ORF parody: Hate Crime Christmas Carol (to the tune of I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS)
'Christmas will be a Hate Crime.
Just you wait and see.
Christmas will be remembered
Only in your dreams.'
