Last week I went on Topix, the online comment section for the Alamogordo Daily News. I used to have it as one of my "favorites". With the decline of news stories in the paper, Topix was where I could at least get some information after wading through a bunch of gratuitous sniping.
This particular morning as soon as I opened the website there was a warning ostensibly from Windows Internet Explorer. There was the Windows' logo and verbiage warning of dire consequences if I didn't click this or that. Problem was I could not understand their directions. Thank goodness or I would have fallen for the scam. I called my computer expert, Michael Morris, the guy who brings you Alamogordo Times, Mountain Mail Country and the newly hatched fledgling (so new it doesn't even have a name) internet radio. You can find a link at Alamogordo Times. http://alamogordotimes.com/
After I explained the curious information on Topix, Michael said "Close it." I did. Turns out that Topix had been infiltrated by a bad thing through one of its advertisers. Michael got the message out to a bunch of Topix users and rumor has it that the administrators of Topix even sent Michael a thank you.
Having a good computer guy is priceless.

(ORF)ALAMOGORDO A major cold front dumped up to an inch of snow on Alamogordo Friday night. Major thorough fares and side streets were nearly impassable as motorists attempted to drive in the heavy snow. Stranded travelers made due at the airport as flights out of Alamogordo were canceled because of blizzard conditions. Some areas of the city reported power dangerously close to being out because of heavy snow accumulation on power lines. Most holiday events were canceled by civic groups and churches. The city said if it owned a snowplow, it would be out on the streets clearing snow packed routes. Local hospitals report several admissions of elderly persons suffering chain pains and shortness of breath from shoveling snow. The Alamogordo Coalition for the Homeless reported area homeless shelters were full. The Green Coalition on Climate Change released a press statement blaming the blizzard on man-made climate change. The statement went on to warn of record breaking high temps in 2009.

Before shining shoes Sir Richard Branson offerred British Airways ONE POUND for their fleet of Concordes.
“On 10 April 2003, Air France and British Airways simultaneously announced that they would retire Concorde later that year....That same day, Sir Richard Branson offered to buy British Airways' Concorde fleet at their "original price of £1" .... The real cost of buying the aircraft was £26 million each but the money for buying the aircraft was loaned by the government, but took 80% of the profits.”

Thoughts on the Ronny Rardin case from an ORF viewer:
This is the kind of behaviour we as a society should be rewarding -
where a citizen has trust in his community admitted to accidentally breaking a rule.
Then to save face, the authority of the county decided to not only
punish him, but punish the community by pressing charges, creating more red tape and wasting tax dollars.
After this reaction how can the people be expected to ever be
honest with "authority" again?

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been arrested on corruption charges the day after he announced he was asking all Illinois government agencies to suspend business with Bank of America
Blagojevich’s arrest seems to be a strong signal that going up against the banksters will not be tolerated. “Blagojevich contended that Bank Of America received More..a multi-billion dollar bailout from the government and should accordingly restore credit to the Republic Windows & Doors company in Chicago,” writes Katharine Zaleski for the Huffington Post.
Last week the workers of Republic Windows & Doors occupied a factory in Chicago after the company closed down and stiffed the workers. “Workers said they were entitled to be given 60 days notice of the closure of the plant and demanded pay for that period as well as any unused vacation time,” the BBC reported.
Blagojevich demanded the Bank of America take “some of that federal tax money that they’ve received and invest it by providing the necessary credit to this company so these workers can keep their jobs."
Blagojevich made the comment at the same time president select Obama expressed support for the workers. “It’s also important for us to make sure that the plans and programs that we design aren’t just targeted at maintaining the solvency of banks, but they’re designed also to get money out the door and to help people on Main Street,” said Obama.
Rod Blagojevich, of course, is not Barack Obama, who is in the process of stuffing his administration with bankster insiders, CFR members, and Federal Reserve and Goldman Sachs mobsters such as Robert Rubin, Larry Summers, and Paul Volcker.
It didn’t take long for the U.S. attorney’s office to crank out a 78-page criminal complaint against Blagojevich. It is said Blagojevich attempted to sell off the vacancy of Obama’s Senate seat and considered naming himself to the Senate. It is not difficult to believe Blagojevich is a crook and would do such a thing. He has shady ties to Antoin “Tony” Rezko, the political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer convicted on several counts of fraud and bribery.
On the other hand, the sudden appearance of a federal compliant against him after he attempted to stick it to the criminal organization known as the Bank of America is rather suspicious, to say the least.
The impending prosecution of Blagojevich sends a powerful message to other governors, mayors, city council members around the country: don’t mess with the international banking cartel, the global financial mafia.
Calderon has deployed 45,000 troops - 5,000 federales and the death toll at over 6,000 continues to raise while violence spreads north. Title click.

I am not the biggest Wikipedia fan in the world but it will do in a pinch if you are not doing in-depth research and I should have checked out Mr. Turner before I even forwarded the email. It ended up in a mass email and now we have egg on our faces. Please accept our apologies. When we get it wrong, we will tell you, just like now. Right now I am thinking it would be nice if we were wrong more often because the news has been so creepy lately.
Actual letter from someone who farms, writes well and tried this!
I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it.
The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that, since they congregate at my cattle feeder and do not seem to have much fear of me when we are there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I am in the back of the truck not 4 feet away), it should not be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home.
I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, having seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They were not having any of it. After about 20 minutes, my deer showed up -- 3 of them. I picked out a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threw..my rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I would have a good hold.
The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you could tell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it...it took a step away. I put a little tension on the rope and then received an education. The first thing that I learned is that, while a deer may just stand there looking at you funny while you rope it, they are spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope.
That deer EXPLODED.
The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a LOT stronger than a cow or a colt.
A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope and with some dignity. A deer -- no chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled. There was no controlling it and certainly no getting close to it. As it jerked me off my feet and started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope was not nearly as good an idea as I had originally imagined. The only up side is that they do not have as much stamina as many other animals.
A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerk me off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a few minutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point, I had lost my taste for corn-fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope. I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it would likely die slow and painfully somewhere.
At the time, there was no love at all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing, and I would venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer's momentum by bracing my head against various large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared some tiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in, so I didn't want the deer to have to suffer a slow death, so I managed to get it lined back up in between my truck and the feeder - a little trap I had set before hand...kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and I started moving up so I could get my rope back.
Did you know that deer bite? They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody, so I was very surprised when I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of my wrist. Now, when a deer bites you, it is not like being bit by a horse where they just bite you and then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head--almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts. The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective. It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, but it was likely only several seconds.
I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claim by now), tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the tendons out of my right arm, I reached up with my left hand and pulled that rope loose. That was when I got my final lesson in deer behavior for the day.
Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up on their back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and their hooves are surprisingly sharp. I learned a long time ago that, when an animal --like a horse --strikes at you with their hooves and you can't get away easily, the best thing to do is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape. This was not a horse. This was a deer, so obviously, such trickery would not work. In the course of a millisecond, I devised a different strategy. I screamed like a woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from a horse that paws at you is that there is a good chance that it will hit you in the back of the head.
Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twice as strong and 3 times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hit me right in the back of the head and knocked me down. Now, when a deer paws at you and knocks you down, it does not immediately leave. I suspect it does not recognize that the danger has passed. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while you are laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head. I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. So now I know why when people go deer hunting they bring a rifle with a scope to sort of even the odds. All these events are true so help me God...

When I can't sleep I listen to the radio trying to get information about the world around me.
For a couple of years everytime I heard mention of the military my ears perked up. Now, the state of our nation and the economy in particular is of special interest to me. Since Alamogordo Times has been broadcasting the ADPS scanner I have been leaving it on. I have become aware of the work conditions of police officers and their lingo. I don't take the service they provide for granted anymore.
What has occurred to me is that I am hungry for information, a social creature. What also dawned on me its that the old saying "ignorance is bliss" holds true today.
While most of us sleep, eat, read, work, just generally go about our lives, there are people out there that make all this normalcy possible. I am grateful for our service members. I am grateful for outspoken critics of the status quo. I am grateful for dedicated peace officers. I am grateful to brave, inquisitive souls who want to know the truth.
The great thing about truly being grateful is that it fills your life with abundance and the glass is always half full.

While right wing insiders benefit economically from Smart Growth policies the politically powerful left wing collectivists promote the anti-life, anti-liberty, and anti-property program titled The Wildlands Project. This combination of the two is the United Nations Agenda 21 land use program.
The federal executive branch’s implementation of this political globalist agenda by has been continuous since at least 1989.
What is particularly interesting about right wing collectivists and left wing collectivists is what they have in common. Both right wing and left wing collectivists support government-mandated education. Note the bipartisan Bush/Kennedy support for “No Child Left Behind.” This federal mandate was designed to assure that the next generation is molded into compliant global citizens.

Every con game uses three ingredients against the target: Sell the dream. Push the greed button. Stress urgency.
Obama sold the dream of hope and change so desperately wanted by the American voters. He pushed the greed button by promising to take from the rich to give to the poor. And he stressed urgency by himself and his wife telling voters to vote early. Another final nail in the coffin a con man uses against his targets is “The Jack Call”. Monsanto, GE Food,Modified Crops,Seeds,Aspartame,Bovine Growth Hormone,PCB,Ge CropsThe World According to Monsanto is an in-depth look at the domination of the agricultural industry from one of the world’s most insidious and powerful companies. A bold, brilliant film and a definite must-see for anyone who is interested in learning more about the multi-billion dollar, omni-powerful, and highly dangerous Monsanto.
French filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin spent some 20 years hearing about Monsanto before she set out to understand just what Monsanto was all about. Robin posits that perhaps the company’s past can shed some light on what the company is all about today. Monsanto started out as one of the world’s largest chemical companies and is responsible for the creation of Agent Orange (used during the Vietnam War), Aspartame, Bovine Growth Hormone, Polystyrene, PCBs and GE crops (genetically-engineered).
No other filmmaker has ever created such a compelling and damning case against Monsanto. The only other individual to come close to exposing the ugly reality of Monsanto’s contribution to the planet is the best-selling author Jeffrey Smith with his of Seeds of Deception book.
Monsanto’s leading product is Roundup — the world’s best selling herbicide for the last 30 years. Monsanto is also the world’s leader in biotechnology, with over 90% of the genetically modified organisms grown on the planet belonging to them. Most are modified to resist the application of Roundup technology
Roundup Ready Soy Beans account for 90%
of all the soybeans grown in America.
When Roundup was introduced in 1974, the success of the product was, in part, due to its claims of being biodegradable, and that the product ‘leaves the soil clean’ and is good for the environment. Monsanto was twice found guilty of false advertising. Monsanto has now removed the word biodegradable from its labels.
Monsanto’s PCBs also have a lethal legacy. Robin interviews individuals in Pennsylvania who suffered serious health affects from Monsanto’s PCB production plant. In 2001, 20,000 residents filed two lawsuits against Monsanto seeking compensation for the negative effects of the PCBs. Monsanto settled by paying $700 million dollars to build a special hospital, compensate the victims, and clean up the contaminated site. David Carpenter, the foremost expert on PCBs explains how the entire world is now contaminated with PCBs. “They have gone into the water and into the air.”
70% of the food in American stores contain
Monsanto’s GMOs, perhaps the products that are causing the most concern with activists around the globe, were only introduced in 1996 when their Roundup Ready Soybeans were approved for use in the USA. Today, less than 12 years later, Roundup Ready Soybeans account for 90% of all the soybeans grown in American. 70% of the food in American stores contain bio-engineered elements. There is no labelling of genetically modified foods in the USA.
Monsanto also created the controversial Bovine Growth Hormone (rBHG), which is a transgenetic hormone injected into cows to increase milk yield. Monsanto was involved in a major bribery scandal in Canada over their attempts to bribe Health Canada workers into suppressing rBHG data. Eventually, Canada did not approve the drug for use in Canada. The European Parliament has disapproved its use.
Marie-Monique Robin has left no stone unturned in the Monsanto story. She interviews every authority on the subject (both pro and anti-Monsanto), traces American policy-making that allowed Monsanto to prosper and shows how many individuals who have worked to approve the technology at a government level have long ties with the company.

"Now President-elect Obama must appoint a secretary of agriculture who embraces that change, or it will fall victim to the politics of Washington.
Nothing better illustrates the broken politics of Washington than farm and rural policy. The federal government spends billions subsidizing mega farms to drive smaller farms off the land and often penalizes the best environmental stewards with lower payments. It largely fails to invest in the future of America's rural communities."
The State of New Mexico, New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) through the New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) proposes to development and operate a commercial space launch site, called Spaceport America."
This is the very first sentence of the Executive Summary. It is troublesome in that the official name for Spaceport America is still Southwest Regional Spaceport in the laws of the State of New Mexico. I distinctly recall Steve Landene addressing the Spaceport Authority and listing the legislative needs for the 2009 session. Besides the predictable money requests, Mr. Landene pointed out the need for an official name change. Cart before the horse and a question of accuracy in this EIS.
Also, why was Holloman Air Force Base not mentioned ONCE in this EIS?
There are three alternatives including No Action. Alternative 1 is for horizontal launches and Alternative 2 is for vertical launches. Where is the alternative that combines both horizontal and vertical launches?
