It is only 28 pages, the so-called business plan. Is this the best that NMSU has to offer? I am troubled by this "business plan". If this is what they are teaching in our higher institutions we are in for a rocky ride. But, what do I know former co-owner of a profitable business? (Title click for document.)
Also, I am deeply concerned about the future of New Mexico Museum of Space History (formerly known as International Space Hall of Fame) currently in Alamogordo, http://www.nmspacemuseum.org/. The handwriting is on the wall. Read the business plan, you will see. Even Spaceport America's glossy pages tells of the Space Museum being tied to the Spaceport. That is a 175 mile +/- umbilical cord, folks.
This scheme is under capitalized from the git-go. A 1/4% gross receipts tax (grt) or even the maximun 1/2% grt doesn't even begin to cover costs BEFORE construction begins. But, that is the way it is with New Mexico's version of "economic development". Tax the workers to subsidize the connected, i.e. Sunbaked, Railrunner, etc.
And, we are competing against how many spaceports here and abroad? Many of them already have the infrastructure and licensing. We are a day late and a dollar short.
