ORF - The Mexican Consulate has purchased the historical geographic landmark, the Royal Gorge Canyon in southern Colorado. The government of Mexico has announced plans to move the deep gorge to the international border between Mexico and the state of New Mexico. Reasons given for undertaking this monumental task, financed by the World Bank, are to allow migrating Mexican families a chance to enjoy the magnificence beauty of the Royal Gorge and to cut an easier path through the desolate and often hostile New Mexican desert. Planners say relocating the gorge to southern New Mexico will be a boom to the economy in terms of Mexican tourism to that part of the state. It will also allow a critical habitat corridor for endangered Mexican gray wolves and jaguars to come and go across the border, to visit family members in either country.
