I am personally very familiar with this area as that is where Camp Patriot is located. I can
corroborate the condition of
Hermanas Grade. Sometimes it is so dusty from
BP vehicles going by at maximum speed (not a complaint) that it is necessary to take cover until the dust subsides - day or night. I couldn't help but notice yet another unintended consequence of lack of enforcement in our border crossing laws, most often you will hear about anchor babies, free medical and schools but just how often do you hear about the impact on our infrastructure?
"Tim Sullivan, assistant patrol agent-in-charge of the Deming U.S. Border
Patrol Station, said apprehensions of illegal immigrants are down 75 percent
over this time in 2007, to an average of four a day. It was not uncommon
before increased security to have as many as 200 arrests or more a day."
