"When stopped on the street, for example, he said they should ask "Why am I being stopped?" and "Am I free to go?" to establish whether police have a "reasonable suspicion" - the legal standard for detaining a person.
If police try to interrogate them, he said they should respectfully decline to answer and, if arrested, ask for a lawyer. If police try to search their house, car or person without a warrant, they should clearly state, "I do not give my permission for a search."
