Title click to watch this video on the DENVER POST'S website. Jazz singer, Rene Marie, was hired to sing the STAR SPANGLED BANNER at the Denver State of the City speech and gathering of almost 700. She is introduced to sing the National Anthem. She sang the 'Black National Anthem' instead. According to Rene Marie, she made the switch on her own. No one in the crowd attempted to stop her or sing the National Anthem after she finished. I think Rene Marie was paid to sing the Black National anthem by political operatives attempting to create a scene at the State of City gala. The desired reaction, that did not happen, was for a white-liberal city bigwig to attempt to shut off her mike or to censor her. Imagine the racial incident and controversy that would arise out of such a confrontation.
