Aussie Beef Slumps 17% in Korea ~~
US Beef Surges
U.S. beef has beat out other imported and even domestic product in sales at South Korea’s three largest supermarket chains, according to local media reports.
On Sunday E-Mart, Homeplus and Lottemart reported combined sales of nearly 1,300 tons of U.S. beef since Nov. 27, when they resumed sales of U.S. beef.
In the same period, sales of Australian beef reached slightly more than 1,100 tons, down some 17 percent from the same period a year ago. Meantime, sales of homegrown hanwoo cattle product grew 5 percent to about 712 tons.
The USA has no mandatory expensive electronic Livestock identification tagging scheme (Australia does), they have been banned from exporting to South Korea since 2003 when they had their first case of Mad cow disease (Australia has never had a case) and now they are back in the market kicking our butts.
Australian beef producers pay $5 per head marketing levy to the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), USA producers pay $1. Australian producers must by law electronically tag and track every beast at an estimated cost of $30 per head, US producers have no such requirements as their NAIS scheme is voluntary.
Granted Australia and New Zealand have the cleanest and greenest beef in the world. Yet when it comes to selling into world commodity markets it means squat. There are only 3 considerations when buying certain grades of beef on world commodity markets,

2. Price.
3. Price.
Australian Beef producers have a competitive disadvantage of $34 a head against US cattle producers because of the MLA levy and NLIS compliance costs.
The argument put forward by MLA and proponents of NLIS that it gives our producers a competitive market advantage in premium markets such as South Korea is clearly wrong and misleading. All they have saddled our producers with is an expensive, time consuming competitive disadvantage.

The, Well Another, Enemy Within
Last week I went on Topix, the online comment section for the Alamogordo Daily News. I used to have it as one of my "favorites". With the decline of news stories in the paper, Topix was where I could at least get some information after wading through a bunch of gratuitous sniping.
This particular morning as soon as I opened the website there was a warning ostensibly from Windows Internet Explorer. There was the Windows' logo and verbiage warning of dire consequences if I didn't click this or that. Problem was I could not understand their directions. Thank goodness or I would have fallen for the scam. I called my computer expert, Michael Morris, the guy who brings you Alamogordo Times, Mountain Mail Country and the newly hatched fledgling (so new it doesn't even have a name) internet radio. After I explained the curious information on Topix, Michael said "Close it." I did. Turns out that Topix had been infiltrated by a bad thing through one of its advertisers. Michael got the message out to a bunch of Topix users and rumor has it that the administrators of Topix even sent Michael a thank you.
Having a good computer guy is priceless.

(ORF)ALAMOGORDO A major cold front dumped up to an inch of snow on Alamogordo Friday night. Major thorough fares and side streets were nearly impassable as motorists attempted to drive in the heavy snow. Stranded travelers made due at the airport as flights out of Alamogordo were canceled because of blizzard conditions. Some areas of the city reported power dangerously close to being out because of heavy snow accumulation on power lines. Most holiday events were canceled by civic groups and churches. The city said if it owned a snowplow, it would be out on the streets clearing snow packed routes. Local hospitals report several admissions of elderly persons suffering chain pains and shortness of breath from shoveling snow. The Alamogordo Coalition for the Homeless reported area homeless shelters were full. The Green Coalition on Climate Change released a press statement blaming the blizzard on man-made climate change. The statement went on to warn of record breaking high temps in 2009.
A spokesperson for the Toy Train Depot said the popular train ride would be closed until further notice. Alamogordo residents are urged to avoid travel and stay inside until the blizzard passes and warmer temperatures prevail.

Honorable Mention: Those Who Shined Brightly and Those Who Were Not So Bright
ORF has compiled a list of person's who contributed to Otero County by applying their talent or dedication to county affairs. This list contains the positive as well as those whom ORF considers contributed in a negative manner.
International talk radio host, Mike Haymes, receives honorable mention for quitting his popular radio show on KRSY. Haymes endured new station management's meddling with his show and the addition of Charles as co-host. Known for his conservative political views and outspoken positions, Haymes left the show to seek another venue for his talents and his audience.
Michael Morris receives honorable mention for his stinging political commentary on Governor Richardson and local politicians on his Alamogordo Times website. Morris created Alamogordo's first internet streaming radio station. Morris put Mike Haymes back behind the microphone on the internet, giving the veteran talk show host a new venue for his show and his loyal audience.
Laura Schneberger merits honorable mention in 2008 for her relentless battle against federal and state agencies and non-governmental organizations involved in the re-introduction of the Mexican Gray Wolf in southern New Mexico. Laura has maintained the Wolf Crossing website for several years, chronicling the history of wolf re-introduction in New Mexico and giving ranchers a voice in this hotly debated issue. Laura is president of the Gila Livestock Growers Association. She works long hours gathering information for Wolf Crossing, traveling across the state to attend New Mexico Game and Fish meetings and to Santa Fe to attend legislative sessions.
Danny Martinez is more than worthy of honorable mention. Danny lives in Santa Fe and owns a ranch in Arizona. Danny is the man ranchers and lawyers seek out for legal strategy when confronting federal and state agencies that attempt to expand fraudulent jurisdiction and authority by illegally seizing herds and private property.
R L Posey, Chair of People for Otero County deserves honorable mention for his research and alerting county residents on New Mexico Game and Fish meetings, changes in regulations and countless other issues involving ranching, predator control and wildlife in Otero County. This blog greatly appreciates R L's contributions to ORF in 2008.
Washington state resident, Raven Webb, receives honorable mention for her contributions to ORF and the legal battle she is fighting in Wahkiakum County in her state. Raven's land has been flooded for several years because of illegal alterations of dikes and waterways by the Columbia Land Trust and Ducks Unlimited. Raven has suffered over 4 million dollars in damages to her land and home. She has single-handedly organized other land owners in Wahkiakum County to take county commissioners and a weak county sheriff to Superior Court to demand they enforce county ordinances and state law prohibiting illegal flooding in Washington state. Raven is also responsible for exposing the killing of thousands of salmon on Grays River in Washington state. The Salmon Recovery Project, a non-governmental organization pushing for listing salmon on the Endangered Species List, was actually killing salmon by contructing illegal fish wiers and pulling salmon out of the river and leaving them on the bank to die.
Maude Rathgaber, perennial Otero County political mover and shaker, was in fine form in 2008. ORF would be remiss to not acknowledge Maude who knows the voters of Otero County and has much experience in counteracting political highjinx with education. Maude was highly visable in the opposition to the U.N. World Heritage Site Designation, the proposed new library and spaceport tax. Maude is hostess of Eagle Forum and uses her communications skills effectively on talk radio.
Political psychic, Ellen Wedum, receives ORF's dishonorable mention for 2008 for statements she made to call in radio shows. Chair of the Otero County Democrats,Wedum called into Mike Haymes show in the spring and told Mike and his callers that urinating on fence posts will scare wolves away from private property and livestock. In October, Wedum exhibited her talents as a clairvoyant when she called into Stephanie Dubois talk show and interpreted words Marcia Stirman had written in her controversial letter to the editor, 'Why I'm a Republican'.Wedum told Dubois and listeners that when Stirman used the word Muslim, she actually meant the 'N' word. Wedum's gratuitous use of racial animus against blacks failed to gain her the national attention and controversy Stirman garnered.
Dishonorable mention goes to the New Mexico GOP in Santa Fe. The Grand Old Party turned out to be the Grand Old Politically-Correct when its chair and members condemned Marcia Stirman as a racist and called for her resignation from her position as chair of the Republican Women of Otero County. The Santa Fe Republicans caved to pressure from CAIR and Democrats for Stirman to resign.New Mexican Republicans who rallied to Stirman's defense expressed disgust and disappointment in the Sante Fe Republicans.

WOLVES AT THE END OF THE YEAR
About three weeks ago an anonymous caller told me she had heard a wolf howling in the hills east of Taylor Ranch road. I did not investigate, as Janet and I have done in the past. I asked the caller if she was familiar with wolf audibles. She recalled living with wolves on her father's ranch as a child and hearing the wolves howl at night. The ranch was not in New Mexico, but in another state. I believe the wolves are here in Otero County. We've had one report of a collared wolf in the Weed area in 2008. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been arrested on corruption charges the day after he announced he was asking all Illinois government agencies to suspend business with Bank of America
Blagojevich’s arrest seems to be a strong signal that going up against the banksters will not be tolerated. “Blagojevich contended that Bank Of America received More..a multi-billion dollar bailout from the government and should accordingly restore credit to the Republic Windows & Doors company in Chicago,” writes Katharine Zaleski for the Huffington Post.
Last week the workers of Republic Windows & Doors occupied a factory in Chicago after the company closed down and stiffed the workers. “Workers said they were entitled to be given 60 days notice of the closure of the plant and demanded pay for that period as well as any unused vacation time,” the BBC reported.
Blagojevich demanded the Bank of America take “some of that federal tax money that they’ve received and invest it by providing the necessary credit to this company so these workers can keep their jobs."
Blagojevich made the comment at the same time president select Obama expressed support for the workers. “It’s also important for us to make sure that the plans and programs that we design aren’t just targeted at maintaining the solvency of banks, but they’re designed also to get money out the door and to help people on Main Street,” said Obama.
Rod Blagojevich, of course, is not Barack Obama, who is in the process of stuffing his administration with bankster insiders, CFR members, and Federal Reserve and Goldman Sachs mobsters such as Robert Rubin, Larry Summers, and Paul Volcker.
It didn’t take long for the U.S. attorney’s office to crank out a 78-page criminal complaint against Blagojevich. It is said Blagojevich attempted to sell off the vacancy of Obama’s Senate seat and considered naming himself to the Senate. It is not difficult to believe Blagojevich is a crook and would do such a thing. He has shady ties to Antoin “Tony” Rezko, the political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer convicted on several counts of fraud and bribery.
On the other hand, the sudden appearance of a federal compliant against him after he attempted to stick it to the criminal organization known as the Bank of America is rather suspicious, to say the least.
The impending prosecution of Blagojevich sends a powerful message to other governors, mayors, city council members around the country: don’t mess with the international banking cartel, the global financial mafia.

I am personally very familiar with this area as that is where Camp Patriot is located. I can corroborate the condition of Hermanas Grade. Sometimes it is so dusty from BP vehicles going by at maximum speed (not a complaint) that it is necessary to take cover until the dust subsides - day or night. I couldn't help but notice yet another unintended consequence of lack of enforcement in our border crossing laws, most often you will hear about anchor babies, free medical and schools but just how often do you hear about the impact on our infrastructure?

We Are Not Perfect. Only People Who Are Doing Something Make Mistakes
I received an email today with a link to a very provocative You Tube video about the Amero having been minted in Denver a couple of years ago and then bunches of them being delivered to China. The speaker suggested that we transfer our U.S. dollars to foreign counties stipulating that the dollars be converted to that country's currency. And so on.
After I sent this link to several people I did SOME research and found out that Hal Turner is a white supremist and Jew hater according to Wikipedia, click title to go to that site. If you just have to know what the video was, contact us and we will give you the link.
I am not the biggest Wikipedia fan in the world but it will do in a pinch if you are not doing in-depth research and I should have checked out Mr. Turner before I even forwarded the email. It ended up in a mass email and now we have egg on our faces. Please accept our apologies. When we get it wrong, we will tell you, just like now. Right now I am thinking it would be nice if we were wrong more often because the news has been so creepy lately.

I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it.
The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that, since they congregate at my cattle feeder and do not seem to have much fear of me when we are there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I am in the back of the truck not 4 feet away), it should not be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home.
I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, having seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They were not having any of it. After about 20 minutes, my deer showed up -- 3 of them. I picked out a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threw..my rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I would have a good hold.
The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you could tell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it...it took a step away. I put a little tension on the rope and then received an education. The first thing that I learned is that, while a deer may just stand there looking at you funny while you rope it, they are spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope.
That deer EXPLODED.
The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a LOT stronger than a cow or a colt.
A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope and with some dignity. A deer -- no chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled. There was no controlling it and certainly no getting close to it. As it jerked me off my feet and started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope was not nearly as good an idea as I had originally imagined. The only up side is that they do not have as much stamina as many other animals.
A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerk me off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a few minutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point, I had lost my taste for corn-fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope. I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it would likely die slow and painfully somewhere.
At the time, there was no love at all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing, and I would venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer's momentum by bracing my head against various large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared some tiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in, so I didn't want the deer to have to suffer a slow death, so I managed to get it lined back up in between my truck and the feeder - a little trap I had set before hand...kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and I started moving up so I could get my rope back.
Did you know that deer bite? They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody, so I was very surprised when I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of my wrist.Now, when a deer bites you, it is not like being bit by a horse where they just bite you and then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head--almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts. The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective. It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, but it was likely only several seconds.
I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claim by now), tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the tendons out of my right arm, I reached up with my left hand and pulled that rope loose. That was when I got my final lesson in deer behavior for the day.
Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up on their back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and their hooves are surprisingly sharp. I learned a long time ago that, when an animal --like a horse --strikes at you with their hooves and you can't get away easily, the best thing to do is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape. This was not a horse. This was a deer, so obviously, such trickery would not work. In the course of a millisecond, I devised a different strategy. I screamed like a woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from a horse that paws at you is that there is a good chance that it will hit you in the back of the head.
Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twice as strong and 3 times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hit me right in the back of the head and knocked me down. Now, when a deer paws at you and knocks you down, it does not immediately leave. I suspect it does not recognize that the danger has passed. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while you are laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head. I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. So now I know why when people go deer hunting they bring a rifle with a scope to sort of even the odds. All these events are true so help me God...
