GUN OWNERS AND 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATES: READ THIS ARTICLE AT THE SHOOTIST!
http://www.theshootist.net/2009/03/dod-ends-sale-of-expended-military.html
Heard it on Peter Boyles talk show this morning: KHOW/AM.
Gordon Hutchinson's blog 'THE SHOOTIST' reveals an end run around Congress to greatly diminish the ability of handgun owners and hunters to buy ammunition. The majority of brass casings used in manufacturing ammunition in the United States are purchased from the DOD. These brass casings are from rounds already fired and resold by the DOD to private munitionsmanufacturers. The brass will be shredded and sold as scrap to China!
Quote from Hutchinson's article on the Shootist blog:
"Got that? From now on, remanufacturers of military brass will not be able to buy surplus brass from DOD--actually from Government Liquidators, llc.--the corporation that sells surplus materials for the U.S. government. At least, not in any form recognizable as once-fired brass ammunition."
"Haynie was manufacturing over 1 million rounds of .223 ammunition every month, which he sold on the civilian market to resellers, and to law enforcement agencies across the country.
He will start tomorrow sending cancellations of orders for .223 to law enforcement agencies all over the country."
"What can you do?
"...contact members of Congress..."
Tell your elected officials they have the power to reverse this DOD policy. Tell them not to support any restrictive policy or new laws taking away your 2nd Amendment right or attempts to out-price or destroy handgun and sportsmen munitions manufacturing in the United States.
Tom Grisham.
