Posts (dated articles with a feature that allows for comments from readers) are below the front page.

Same with links to other websites, videos and blog archives. They are on the right side of the blog where opposite posts in a narrow column.

SCROLL DOWN if you want to research or get sources. Use the "labels" feature and simply click on the topic or person that interests you. An idiosyncracy of this format is that whenever you click on a label or older post, you will again see the front page. Nothing we can do about that.

The Oath of the President of the United States

US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

Before he enter on the execution of his office, he shall take the following oath or affirmation: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The case could be made that Obama has violated the oath of the office of the Presidency of the United States in not closing the borders at the threat of a global pandemic of the Mexican flu, the violations of the U.S. Constitution in the CIFTA, and his refusal to clarify the circumstances of his birth. Think about it.

ROSS McKITRICK ON EARTH HOUR

Title click to read article on RUSH LIMBAUGH'S 'STACK OF STUFF'.

Earth Hour: A Dissent

Ross McKitrick

In 2009 I was asked by a journalist for my thoughts on the importance of Earth Hour. Here
is my response.

I abhor Earth Hour. Abundant, cheap electricity has been the greatest source of human
liberation in the 20th century. Every material social advance in the 20th century depended
on the proliferation of inexpensive and reliable electricity. Giving women the freedom to
work outside the home depended on the availability of electrical appliances that free up time
from domestic chores. Getting children out of menial labour and into schools depended on
the same thing, as well as the ability to provide safe indoor lighting for reading.
Development and provision of modern health care without electricity is absolutely
impossible. The expansion of our food supply, and the promotion of hygiene and nutrition,
depended on being able to irrigate fields, cook and refrigerate foods, and have a steady
indoor supply of hot water. Many of the world's poor suffer brutal environmental conditions
in their own homes because of the necessity of cooking over indoor fires that burn twigs and
dung. This causes local deforestation and the proliferation of smoke- and parasite-related
lung diseases. Anyone who wants to see local conditions improve in the third world should
realize the importance of access to cheap electricity from fossil-fuel based power generating
stations. After all, that's how the west developed.

The whole mentality around Earth Hour demonizes electricity. I cannot do that, instead I
celebrate it and all that it has provided for humanity. Earth Hour celebrates ignorance,
poverty and backwardness. By repudiating the greatest engine of liberation it becomes an
hour devoted to anti-humanism. It encourages the sanctimonious gesture of turning off
trivial appliances for a trivial amount of time, in deference to some ill-defined abstraction
called “the Earth,” all the while hypocritically retaining the real benefits of continuous,
reliable electricity. People who see virtue in doing without electricity should shut off their
fridge, stove, microwave, computer, water heater, lights, TV and all other appliances for a
month, not an hour. And pop down to the cardiac unit at the hospital and shut the power off
there too.

I don't want to go back to nature. Travel to a zone hit by earthquakes, floods and hurricanes
to see what it’s like to go back to nature. For humans, living in "nature" meant a short life
span marked by violence, disease and ignorance. People who work for the end of poverty
and relief from disease are fighting against nature. I hope they leave their lights on.
Here in Ontario, through the use of pollution control technology and advanced engineering,
our air quality has dramatically improved since the 1960s, despite the expansion of industry
and the power supply. If, after all this, we are going to take the view that the remaining air
emissions outweigh all the benefits of electricity, and that we ought to be shamed into
sitting in darkness for an hour, like naughty children who have been caught doing
something bad, then we are setting up unspoiled nature as an absolute, transcendent ideal
that obliterates all other ethical and humane obligations. No thanks. I like visiting nature
but I don't want to live there, and I refuse to accept the idea that civilization with all its
tradeoffs is something to be ashamed of.

When we switch off the electricity, many of us turn to candlelight. This seems natural and environmentally friendly, but unfortunately candles are almost 100 times less efficient than incandescent light bulbs, and more than 300 times less efficient than fluorescent lights. Using one candle for each extinguished bulb cancels the CO2 reduction; two candles emit more CO2.

Quimby wants to give more than 70,000 wild acres next to Maine's cherished Baxter State Park to the federal government, hoping to create a Maine Woods National Park. She envisions a visitor center dedicated to Henry David Thoreau, the naturalist who made three trips to Maine in the 1800s.

The park would be nearly twice the size of Maine's Acadia National Park.

In a giveback to sportsmen, her vision is to set aside another 30,000 acres of woodlands north of Dover-Foxcroft to be managed like a state park, with hunting and snowmobiling allowed.

AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY: IT'S BACK!

Title click to read article on HSLDA website.

Congress introduces legislation to make American Community Survey optional.

From the HSLDA article:

On March 3, 2011, Congressman Ted Poe (TX) introduced H.R. 931 to the House of Representatives. H.R. 931 would allow most of the questions on the American Community Survey to be optional. If H.R. 931 became law, the only questions that would be mandatory would be questions on your name, date of response, contact information, and number of people living at the same address (similar to the information asked on the original census in 1790).

HSLDA has long been concerned about the level of personal information collected and the invasiveness of the American Community Survey. We are grateful to Congressman Poe for introducing H.R. 931 and giving the American people control of what personal information they share with the government.

IS CHARLIE SHEEN GOING TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR IN NEW MEXICO

Is Charlie Sheen going to run for governor in New Mexico? ORF hasn't heard he has any inkling of running for any office in New Mexico, but ORF thought we'd throw it out there.

What are his qualifications:

1. He doesn't live in New Mexico, yet he might want to be governor here. Worked for Hillary.
2. He's from Mars. Right away he's in with the Spaceport crowd.
3. He has tiger blood. Great, he could advocate for the re-introduction of tigers to New Mexico.
4. He appears to have a substance abuse problem. Who doesn't?

What would disqualify him from running for office in New Mexico?

All of the above.

WHY THE BIG STINK ABOUT NPR AND ISLAM?

Most ORF readers have either read or heard, on talk radio, the NPR debacle concerning the NPR CEO and some other intellectual elite resigning, after being caught in an ACORN style sting. The NPR dude was caught on video with some guys posing as Muslim types, who wanted to give NPR $5 million.
The NPR guy was recorded talking smack about the Tea Party, Americans, Jews, and giving credence to Islam and Sharia law and wanted to give Sharia a voice in the U.S. Why the big stink?

History lesson...history you will never find in your kid's text book.

The Muslim Brotherhood, also called Muslim Brethren (Arabic: جمعية الأخوان المسلمون Jamiat al-Ikhwan al-muslimun, literally Society of Muslim Brothers) is an Islamic organization with a political approach to Islam. It was founded in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna in Egypt after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
Ideology

The Muslim Brotherhood opposes secular tendencies of Islamic nations and wants return to the precepts of the Qur'an, and rejection of Western influences. They also reject extreme Sufism. They organize events from prayer meetings to sport clubs for socializing.

The organization's motto is as follows: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur'an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.”

An important aspect of the Muslim Brotherhood ideology is the sanctioning of jihad such as the 2004 fatwa issued by Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi making it a religious obligation of Muslims to abduct and kill U.S. citizens in Iraq.
Methodology

The Muslim Brotherhood is working to spread its concepts and gain more followers. They work on the levels of school students, university students, inside mosques and at work. The tools they use are cassette tapes, booklets, camps for youth in schools and universities, and recently the Internet.

The Mufti and the Führer

By Mitchell Bard

In 1941, Haj Amin al-Husseini fled to Germany and met with Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Joachim Von Ribbentrop and other Nazi leaders. He wanted to persuade them to extend the Nazis’ anti-Jewish program to the Arab world.

The Mufti sent Hitler 15 drafts of declarations he wanted Germany and Italy to make concerning the Middle East. One called on the two countries to declare the illegality of the Jewish home in Palestine. Furthermore, “they accord to Palestine and to other Arab countries the right to solve the problem of the Jewish elements in Palestine and other Arab countries, in accordance with the interest of the Arabs and, by the same method, that the question is now being settled in the Axis countries.”1

He nails it.

NPR was been revealed to be an elite white supremacist organization that is run by white libs who don't like Blacks, Jews or most of America. Would you condone your tax dollars going to fund a multi-million dollar Klan or Aryan organization? Probably not. Where is the outcry from the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League, and the entire main stream media on the revelation that NPR is more than willing to degrade Jews and Blacks and take money from an organization posing as an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood?

EDITORIAL BY LAURA SCHNEBERGER - GILA LIVESTOCK GROWERS ASSOCIATION

Laura Schneberger

Gila Livestock Growers Association

PO Box 111

Winston NM 87943

575-772-5753

772 words

On March 5 in Silver City New Mexico, a rally organized by the new group, Keep Our Forest Open www.keepourforestopen.org drew over 700 people, both citizens and elected representatives from throughout the state to voice their opposition to planned road closures and limiting of camping and hunting opportunities on the Gila Forest.

Still, the mainstream media focused the majority of their efforts in covering the rally held the previous day at Gila Hike and Bike, a private business in Silver City. A rally to support of the plan to seriously limit access to the Gila National Forest. Attending that earlier support rally, were far less than a hundred people, even after counting game commissioner Dutch Salmon and at least two dogs.

Why is the press so determined to pursue the agenda of the Environmental movement? The public is often not given the full story on events due to this strong tendency to elevate the wishes of government agencies or the small but vociferous environmental community over the interest of the general public. Here is the story on the innocuously named, Travel management plan.

The USFS proposed action, alternative G, will drastically limit where people can drive in the Gila Forest, and worse, will eliminate 93 percent of the streamside dispersed camping opportunities. This “crowding” of campers and hunters into designated camping areas will contribute to erosion problems not currently caused by dispersed widespread camping. It will also severely limit options for those who want to experience a restful and quiet forest experience. This is not analyzed in the TMP draft document.

Limited camping areas will severely impact other legitimate multiple uses that are occurring simultaneously on the forest. For instance, having 8 camps in a canyon instead of the normal 1-2 will cause stress to livestock and wildlife from the larger human presence. This will move animals into more confined areas with less human presence. Possibly even into that 93 percent of stream sides where camping isn’t allowed. This domino affect will create difficulty keeping grazing utilization under required standards and would competition between livestock and wildlife and put both in closer proximity to predators at water sites.

There is no doubt, there will be less public access to the forest if this goes through. Every visitor to NFS lands needs motor transportation to pursue his/her activity. The number of visitors who absolutely wish to avoid all motorized activities is tiny, and that number is reflected in the small number of recorded Wilderness visits compared to general forest access visits. When supporters tell you this is a compromise what they really mean is, we have a ton of wilderness opportunities we currently do not use much, but we want more, because our moral value judgment is that vehicle access is bad, so you the public, should have less of it. That is what is important to those supporters that you the public have less every time, not that compromise and equity is reached.

It doesn’t help that the USFS has removed as a priority, road maintenance choosing to focus instead on wild-land fire fighting. Budgets are limited in a strained economy but with more uses removed, reduction in multiple use generated jobs and careers are creating less production revenue for the USFS. The answer to road maintenance is not shutting more uses down but opening more up. We need more timber production, more livestock production, more recreational and hunting access opportunities. That will put more money into the local economy and in turn, more into the coffers of the agencies.

The agency instead has placed itself above Congress by attempting to create more contiguous roadless areas. It is not the agency's job to eliminate and limit multiple uses from forested areas. It is congresses job. Wilderness areas were created through the Wilderness Act through the intent of congress.

The Gila has 700,000 acres of designated wilderness for those who wish to escape the sights and sounds of vehicle recreational access, or who wish to experience a primitive hunt. To attempt to use other laws such as NEPA to create more Wilderness or to establish de-facto wilderness as is occurring in this plan, violates the intent of congress. Congress never intended the USFS to expand and create wilderness through administrative procedure. The so called Travel Management Planning process is currently ongoing in all forested regions in the United States and each plan bears close scrutiny.

Multiple use is currently the USFS prime directive. Until Congress changes that, and declares that all NFS units should seek to

create roadless and Wilderness-like characteristics, the agency is bound by law to support diversity and multiple use, and the

production of goods and services for human use.

TWO STORIES RELATED BY COMMON RELIGION

ORF says: There are two stories in the DENVER POST online edition this morning, that are related by a common religion. Is the religion Islam, or pan-liberalism? ORF defines pan-liberalism as individuals who believe they are entitled to either global dominance or other people's wealth and they are superior to everything on earth. In between we have the boiling pot of political and social turmoil. Yes, this is deep...very deep, but take some time and let it sink in.

Let me ask you another question: When was the last time anyone in the Tea Party sat down with representatives of a particular religion for lunch and did the I WANT YOUR CHECK FOR $5M tap dance?

What happened to Obama's call for civility in public discourse...Remember all that shameless political expediency by the Democrats after the tragic shootings in Tucson?

From the article:

Mississippi:

"Negroes must make annual contracts for their labor in writing; if they should run away from their tasks, they forfeited their wages for the year. Whenever it was required of them they must present licenses (in a town from the mayor; elsewhere from a member of the board of police of the beat) citing their places of residence and authorizing them to work. Fugitives from labor were to be arrested and carried back to their employers. Five dollars a head and mileage would be allowed such negro catchers. It was made a misdemeanor, punishable with fine or imprisonment, to persuade a freedman to leave his employer, or to feed the runaway. Minors were to be apprenticed, if males until they were twenty-one, if females until eighteen years of age. Such corporal punishment as a father would administer to a child might be inflicted upon apprentices by their masters. Vagrants were to be fined heavily, and if they could not pay the sum, they were to be hired out to service until the claim was satisfied. Negroes might not carry knives or firearms unless they were licensed so to do. It was an offence, to be punished by a fine of $50 and imprisonment for thirty days, to give or sell intoxicating liquors to a negro. When negroes could not pay the fines and costs after legal proceedings, they were to be hired at public outcry by the sheriff to the lowest bidder...."

COMMENTS TO ORF

WARNING: MAY CONTAIN GRAPHIC, PROFANE, MORONIC, SOPHOMORIC, CRUDE, UNINTELLIGIBLE, OR JUST PLAIN STUPID REMARKS.

It has been the policy of the Otero Residents Forum NOT to publish comments received on posts and hot topic issues on the ORF blog. Starting today, I will moderate comments and post comments to the blog. I reserve the right to censor profanity in the comments. I usually do a mass dump and get rid of them all in one fell swoop! But...considering the political climate in the nation today and the amusement value of the comments, I will publish comments that I deem acceptable or just too emblematic of the 'other side' to not publish. Our new off-shore servers can handle the load.

I also will publish constructive and civil comments...if those exist anymore.

LAST WORLD WAR I VET DIES

From FOXNEWS:

Frank Buckles, who drove an Army ambulance in France in 1918 and came to symbolize a generation of embattled young Americans as the last of the World War I doughboys, died Sunday at his home in Charles Town, W. Va. He was 110.

His death was announced by a family spokesman, David DeJonge, The Associated Press said.

He was only a corporal and he never got closer than 30 or so miles from the Western Front trenches, but Mr. Buckles became something of a national treasure as the last living link to the two million men who served in the American Expeditionary Forces in France in "the war to end all wars."
